The 2011 nec code figure 1 has made changes to the common method of wiring a switch loop. When wiring a 2 way switch circuit all we want to do is to control the black wire hot wire to turn on and off the load. To make a switch loop connect the incoming hot black wire to the white neutral wire that runs to the switch.

The common method prior to the implementation of the 2011 nec code of physically installing a switch loop was to use standard 14 2 cable which contains a white and black colored wire.
