In both cases the long line is representative of the positive terminal of the energy source and the short line represents the negative terminal. The booster part is used to boost the battery voltage from 3 7v to 4 5v 6v. We use circuit symbols to draw diagrams of electrical circuits with straight lines to show the wires.
